It has been a minute or two since I blogged last, definitely going to work on that one. Some amazing things have been happening with my career. I have grown as a photographer, a business woman and an artist. I recently landed a job with Google as a business photographer!! I am loving life right now to say the least. My freelance business is taking off like wildfire and I am shooting on a regular consistent basis. My work has grown leaps and bounds and now I know my potential is limitless. I have accomplished a great deal along my short 2 year long journey. My work has made it on to Esh Bass for musician Jason Viebrooks in Europe, I have been noted and published in Ridin On magazine as well as an up and coming publication in Cincinnati Parents magazine. My goal for the year is to land a CD cover…I will do it!!! I have confidence!! I have many projects in the works right now, one of which should be in press in 2013!!! I will keep you posted as this develops

There are many things a photographer pays attention to, or should when doing a shoot. First and foremost the main thought should be, how do I make this person FEEL amazing before we even start shooting?? There is a method to the madness that not everyone is capable of, it takes a whole lot of people skills to get it done right. I absolutely love making someone feel and look beautiful…but I want it REAL! The photography world has somehow turned into digital manipulation, nothing is real…just a base to create. This is not how I see my subject, never as a base but as the whole premise of my shoot. When someone sees my finished product I want them to say “I am beautiful” because they are, not because that is how they were created by my PC. Why buy a camera if what your producing is not photography but digital art? Why should anyone take the time to get all dolled up for a shoot when they are going to be completely re invented anyway? I have met many photographers, I have spoke to many about this and most agree that beauty is what you see not what you create. Our job is to find the beauty in everyone and everything and bring it out….not put it in. I am fully capable of creating perfect skin and the bluest eyes you have ever seen…but show me someone who REALLY looks like that…show me someone who can take a digitally mastered photo into any agency and not get laughed at while being asked “Who the hell is this, and who the hell are you?” There is nothing wrong with covering up some acne, bringing out a little color…but don’t lose the integrity of the shot and more important the subject! I find this to be a very annoying trait that most seem to fall into, the fantasy world of perfection. It doesn’t exist, it is not real so why portray that it is. The damage that is being done is quite easy to see, you have changed a person who doesn’t need to be. You have taken an identity away from someone, their uniqueness, their personality, their stamp on the world…their face. Our children are being told that perfection is acceptable not being themselves, being real, being human. I would be embarrassed if I came to get my photos that I paid for and found that I wasn’t even a thought. My eyes are changed, my skin is like plastic, I miraculously dropped 50 lbs and my teeth are creepy white!!! I would be livid and would definitely say “who the hell do you think you are?” Everyone has their nitch, their own stamp to their work and that is very respected…just be upfront when you shoot and tell them, I am going to make you into something I see…not the rest of the world, but what I portray as beautiful. Graphic art is an amazing talent, one that is mastered by few and has left me breathless at times but photography is as well…and they are two very different things.
Studio 714 is running in a whole new direction. After many shoots of various types I am sticking with what I enjoy doing and that is creating art out of people. Every time I shoot a model who is unique I am completely taken to another place. The shoot becomes more than just working a camera, my vision becomes reality. There is nothing better than knowing that you are creating something of your own style. I will be primarily working solely with others in the industry to expand my profile and to create art rather than just a picture. My hope is to be a full time, sought after photographer. My goal is to surpass any and all of my own expectations along this amazing road I have been traveling. I have met astounding people since day one when I started in my basement. I have come a long way and now truly know where my passion lies with this profession. If nothing else, I am doing what I love and not norm per say. There is more to my photography than sitting a family down and asking them to say “cheese!”. Plans are in the works to grow from other professionals who have been doing this for a very long time. I am on a path to learn, to better my work and be known for it. There are so many amazing photographers I have had the privilege to work with and learn from, each an every one has had something to offer that has put the spark back into my work. I hope you will see me published, working along side a prestige photographer and making my dream a reality.
There is no daunting tasks to adding color and a great pop to your photography. Anyone can do it, everyone has it…it is simply the use of contrast. When editing your photo play with the color by upping the contrast of the photo. By doing this, you add vibrancy, depth and interest to your photography. Whether it is children, landscapes or artistic photos great color will always enhance and draw attention to your work. The use of contrast has been used since digital editing became an option, a simple step that will be long lived and used by many.
Well, I now have a piece hanging permanently in the Scripps Center in Cincinnati at 3rd and Walnut. Wow…what a wild ride so far, on a European website, published in a local magazine and now a permanent work at a prestige downtown location. How in the world did all of this happen??? I never gave up, that is how. Remember to always believe in yourself and your art, it represents you in the most intimate fashion. Let yourself pour through in everything you do and you are sure to succeed. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t, won’t or shouldn’t…they are the ones who never accomplished anything. Listen to yourself, you are the one that counts. I am proud that I have come so far with what I love, now it is time to take it a step further….who knows what will come next.
Something that I have learned over my time of shooting is that in every inch of an object, sculpture, person, what have you…there is beauty. Don’t just look at the whole, look at the bits and pieces that make up that whole and capture it. Details are often lost and go un noticed, stop and look…you never know what your missing out on.
The best lighting in photography is the natural light from the great outdoors. The most beautiful photographs I have taken have been outdoor shots. There are limitless backdrops, limitless potential and everyone looks great! Some photographers only do natural light photography, some because they prefer and others because they don’t have the indoor equipment. Either way, natural is the way to go especially this time of year. If you have a location in mind or maybe need help finding one, give me a call or shoot me an email. I would love to capture you, your family or any loved one on film. I do more than just take pictures, I capture moments, emotions and personality!

The photos are up from the Franklin County Bicentennial Gala held in the Harmony Room above Turning Point Fitness. I can only hope that I captured the true beauty of this event and it’s amazing location. Not that long ago this building was a major work in progress with limitless potential. Hard work and dedication from Brian Patterson, Allen Beneker and Judd McMillan have transformed the building from a place lost in time to a renovation that will take your breath away. I have had the unique opportunity to see the progression within the building and the outstanding restoration of the third floor, now the Harmony Room. Brookville now has a beautiful banquet facility that was a great need, and now has been made available by these fine gentlemen for us all to enjoy.
Once again I was honored to be a part of something wonderful in Brookville. Working with Brian, Allen and Judd is always a wonderful experience. They truly want what is best for the town and the people and are wonderful gentlemen to work with. Witnessing this event was a spectacular experience for me. I adored seeing everyone put on their best from formal gowns to period attire, everyone looked amazing. Everyone there had the opportunity to enjoy great company, amazing food and excellent entertainment. The mood was set beautifully lit with candles, white linens and an amazing food and a nostalgic atmosphere. The integrity of the building and all of its original elements were restored to the finest of quality. For some I am sure it was like stepping back in time. There are so many amazing buildings such as this one that have the same potential, I for one would love to see them utilized and open for all of us to enjoy. I am sure that the Harmony Room will be the place in Brookville where memories are made from wedding receptions to baby showers. The affordability is quite astonishing for such a high quality environment. You really can not do any better than the Harmony Room. No other facility can offer the beauty and class of this banquet facility.
Although the Harmony room was a hit in its self, I can not forget to mention the food. Wow, what an amazing job Hava Java Cafe located in Lawrenceburg, IN did on the catering. Not only was the food delicious, it was beautiful and bountiful. Prepared to perfection you would find homemade breads, an amazing entree that included an amazing cream sauce to die for, these fine women out did themselves. I can only hope that they are the number one pick for many events to come there as well as in surrounding areas. What a fine job, kudos to Hava Java for an outstanding job.
Throughout panning through the photos I hope you can get a strong sense of the atmosphere, the wonderful people, the amazingly beautiful elements of the Harmony Room and the overall success of this event. I personally could not have found a better place for the Franklin County Bicentennial Gala to be held.
I would like to extend my great thanks to Brian, Allen and Judd for having me and for the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful event. I hope to see more as well as be a part of capturing more moments in the Harmony Room in Brookville, IN.

In business you definately have your highs and lows, but there is always that light at the end of the tunnel gleaming…keeping you going. Never give up no matter how low you feel, it will get better. I have found that there will be people around you that want you to fail, are un supportive and down right rude…ignore them. Then you have that handful that truly believe in what you do, listen to them…keep them close. Business is a dog eat dog world no matter what it is you are into. The only one that will keep you from success is yourself. Remember you are your own worst critic, that voice inside your head is your own worst enemy….BELIVE in YOU! I believe in me
always have and always will.
The best thing about photography is it’s spontaneity. You never know when you are snapping away what you are getting! A fun time with the family can turn into a memory captured for life. Since digital cameras came out you don’t have to worry about film preservation, waiting for the perfect shot and then missing it because of shutter lag. Now you can just shoot away, erase what you don’t like and enjoy the ones you love forever….what a truly amazing invention! Never be afraid to take too many photos, they can be gone with the press of a button if you don’t like one or two. This photo was taken among hundreds of others, this one is my favorite out of those hundreds taken. I simply set my camera to the action/sport setting (great for shooting children in action) and clicked away! I now have a beautiful photo of my beautiful niece…a memory frozen in time, I love it!!!!
There are so many women out there who underestimate their true natural beauty. They don’t see what I see, with a little convincing I get amazing shots like this one. Never underestimate the true beauty of your self. Never be afraid of a camera, just make sure it is in the right hands. A beautiful self portrait is something every woman should have. Have fun with it, get out of the box. Stiff smiles are out and true beauty is in! Hope to see you in the studio soon
